Senior Extra-Curricular Activities

Academic excellence and learning are not achieved through subject lessons alone. Our extra-curricular programme allows pupils to pursue existing passions and discover new ones both inside and outside the classroom.

Developing As Individuals

So Many New Things To Try

The wide variety of clubs and societies on offer at lunchtimes and after school cater for our students' existing passions as well as allowing them to discover new ones. From Waterpolo to Cryptography Club or our Debating Society, Knitting to Growing and Gardening, there really is something for everyone.

Sporting Fun

At Manchester High School for Girls, we are passionate about the value of physical activity.

Not only does it sharpen concentration and academic performance, but it also helps to develop leadership and team working skills as well as promoting a positive body image. PE lessons are a vital part of our curriculum, but many girls also choose to participate in school sport as part of the extra-curricular programme. As well as traditional sports such as hockey, netball, rounders and athletics, there are opportunities to experience activities such as rock climbing, trampolining, taekwondo and track cycling.

Inspiring Creativity

We believe creative subjects, such as Art, Music and Drama, encourage pupils to make independent decisions and develop the ability to be self-critical. Alongside the set timetable, we encourage girls to explore all aspects of performance.

We believe the skills associated with taking to the stage – the discipline of practice, the ability to develop a sense of togetherness with peers, and the capacity to convey confidence – are all vital transferable skills.

The annual school production, which has brought musicals including Chicago, Sweeney Todd, Hairspray, Little Shop of Horrors and South Pacific to Manchester High, provides a wealth of opportunities for students to get involved; both on stage and behind the scenes. Our first musical production for pupils in Years 7-9, Annie, also took place in the Summer Term of 2022; a fantastic opportunity for our younger students to take centre stage.  Our modern dance studio is always put to good use and pupils enjoy taking part in our annual Dance Show. There is a huge array of opportunities for our musicians; including choirs, orchestras, string groups, jazz and wind bands, as well as individual instrumental lessons.
