Teachers here are approachable and supportive, and they see the potential in everyone. I was encouraged to take up swimming when I was in Year 2. I now swim with my local club eight times a week and lead the school swimming team.

I really enjoy Geography, Biology and Chemistry and all the experiments we get to do in class. I recently took part in the Salter’s Chemistry Festival at the University of Manchester where we did really well as a team. I would love to become a marine biologist when I’m older.

There is never a dull moment in school; there is something for everyone! Alongside swimming, I dance and do athletics. I also sing in the choir and I have studied for a LAMDA qualification which has boosted my confidence and presentation skills. One of my proudest moments in school was speaking at Founders’ Day in front of hundreds of people.

    Year 11

I love Maths and Sciences and I intend to have a career in either area. I recently took part in a Maths Pop Quiz with the boys at The Manchester Grammar School, which was a great experience. I also enjoy studying Latin, Spanish and French as I have a flair for languages.

Outside the classroom, I take Speech and Drama lessons, I sing in the school choir and participate in the Model United Nations. I also help out in the school library during lunchtimes.

Teachers here are great; they support and encourage you to go that step further. I have gained confidence and the ability to think and learn independently. No other school is like ours; it’s such a welcoming place, and we are like a big family.

When I joined Manchester High in Year 7, I quickly discovered a range of sports which I enjoy and am good at. I play water polo, hockey and tennis and I also compete in athletics, with hurdles as my main event. It is fantastic to play in the school water polo team and enjoy success in national competitions.

The sport facilities here are amazing and make it easy for us to try out new things. The teachers always encourage you to do your best. Alongside PE, I love the sciences and Food Technology and I have been able to take part in different challenges such as the Crest Award and a regional baking competition. I have had the opportunity to do things I never thought I would, and that has made school really enjoyable!

I have enjoyed singing, playing instruments and performing from an early age. The wonderful music and drama opportunities on offer at Manchester High made it a natural choice for me to study here. There are no limitations to doing what you love. My highlights so far have been playing the lead part in the school play, going on music trips and taking part in the school’s annual music festival.

I am involved in the school orchestra, junior choir, wind band and the drama club. I also take singing and violin lessons at the Junior RNCM and I play the piano and the flute. My dream is to perform in the West End or to have a career in classical singing or playing in a professional orchestra.
