Manchester High School for Girls

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

Manchester High School for Girls has a very active and enthusiastic Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Members help to raise funds for the School through a number of different activities.

Over the years, the PTA has provided:

  • Video cameras and playground equipment for the Prep
  • Hats for our award-winning water polo team
  • Drama staging
  • Sports equipment for overseas tours
  • Cookery equipment
  • Language CDs
The girls love their portable music system for their dance practice.

More recently, the committee has approved the following purchases:

  • Pairs of climbing shoes
  • Portable music system for sports hall
  • Two flowmeters
  • Ten cake tins
  • Easy readers

We have contributed to the School’s minibus fundraising scheme and a percentage of all the money we raise goes towards the Pankhurst Bursary Fund.

The PTA social programme caters for all ages and tastes and allows parents to meet and form friendships through their daughters. Regular social events include a Halloween disco, family quiz and our ever-popular barn dance.

The PTA also runs the School’s second hand uniform shop which is usually open on the first Wednesday of each month. The shop carries extensive stock of high quality prep and main school uniforms. Details of opening times are found in the weekly school bulletin.

Easy reads have been a welcome addition to language classes.

The PTA Committee meets once or twice every term to plan the fundraising agenda for the forthcoming 6 to 12 months. Members are drawn from across all of the Year groups and meetings are always very relaxed. One meeting each term is usually held in school, others tend to be less formal and can be held over a curry at a local restaurant or wine and chocolates at a Committee member’s house, under the pretence that planning is being done!

So why not get involved? You will not need any specific skills, just some free time, masses of enthusiasm and a strong desire to make a difference! If you would like to join us please contact the Chair, Sarah Ramsbottom, via email.
