Manchester High School for Girls

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

Manchester High School for Girls has a very active and enthusiastic Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Members help to raise funds for the School through a number of different activities.

The new Steinway piano

The PTA funds the "icing on the cake" items requested by different subject departments - everything from GoPro cameras for the PE Department to flow meters for Geography. The PTA also funds and part funds larger items for the benefit of the whole School.

Recent purchases have included:

  • An MHSG branded hockey dugout for the astro-turf pitches
  • A fabulous Play Stage and Cabin for the Prep playground
  • A £3,000 contribution towards a new Steinway piano

A percentage of all the funds we raise goes towards the MHSG Bursary Fund.

Fundraising

With fundraising events being so hard to plan, we are looking to ask for parents’ support via Amazon Smile and the EasyFundraising app.

Amazon Smile will donate 0.5% of any Amazon purchases to the MHSG PTA, if you nominate “Manchester High School for Girls” as your chosen charity.  Simply google “Amazon Smile choose a charity” and follow the simple instructions.  It takes less than 1 minute to do.

Alternatively, if you shop at M&S, ASOS, JD Sports, John Lewis, Argos or enjoy the occasional Domino’s pizza, please download the EasyFundraising app (free of charge) and nominate MHSG as your chosen charity.  2% of many purchases will come straight to us.  It’s easy and doesn’t cost you a penny!

Events

When we are allowed to organise events again, the PTA really does come into its own, with a fabulous social programme, catering for all ages and tastes.  It also allows parents to meet and form friendships through their daughters. Regular social events in the past have included a Halloween disco, family quizzes and our ever-popular barn dance.

The Pre-loved Uniform Shop

Second hand uniform is one of the main fundraising activities for the PTA but our physical shop has been unable to open since March 2020.

The PTA is working hard on creating an online shop, where parents can buy pre-loved uniform and other merchandise.  We hope to be able to launch the online shop in summer 2021.  Further updates will be in the Weekly Bulletins and on this PTA page.

The shop relies on the kindness of parents to donate their unwanted uniform – every penny goes straight to the PTA and the Bursary Fund. Watch this space for information about dropping off uniform and purchasing great quality seconds.

PTA Meetings

The PTA Committee currently meets every term on Zoom, to plan the fundraising agenda for the forthcoming year.

PTA Zoom Meeting

One day, we will hopefully be able to hold a meeting over a curry at a local restaurant again, or wine and chocolates at a Committee member’s house, under the pretence that planning is being done!  But for now, meetings remain on Zoom.

So why not get involved? You will not need any specific skills, just some free time, masses of enthusiasm and a strong desire to make a difference! If you would like to join us please contact us using the details below.
