Manchester High School for Girls

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

Manchester High School for Girls has a very active and enthusiastic Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Members help to raise funds for the School through a number of different activities.

The PTA funds the "icing on the cake" items requested by different subject departments - everything from new Balance Bikes for the Prep Department to a Visualiser for the Chemistry Department. The PTA also funds and part funds larger items for the benefit of the whole School.

Prep Farm Day

Recent purchases have included:

  • Hockey Dugouts for the Astro Turf, to keep the pupils sheltered during the cold and rainy days
  • The funding of an extra Young Enterprise Team to teach pupils the basics about running a business
  • A Farm Day for the entire Preparatory School where the pupils could pet a wide range of donkeys, chicks and bunnies!
  • A Boom speaker for the PE Dept to use for Dance and Synchronised swimming
  • A variety of enamel badges and baking resources for the LGBT Club
  • Purifying plants for the Y9 classrooms, to promote wellbeing and to encourage the pupils to look after a "living thing!"

A percentage of all the funds we raise goes towards the MHSG Bursary Fund.

Fundraising

We also ask for parents' support via Amazon Smile and the EasyFundraising app.

Amazon Smile will donate 0.5% of any Amazon purchases to the MHSG PTA, if you nominate “Manchester High School for Girls” as your chosen charity.  Simply google “Amazon Smile choose a charity” and follow the simple instructions.  It takes less than 1 minute to do.

Alternatively, if you shop at M&S, JD Sports, John Lewis, Argos (and 4000 other high street shops!) or enjoy the occasional Domino’s pizza, please download the EasyFundraising app (free of charge) and nominate MHSG as your chosen charity.  2% of many purchases will come straight to us.  It’s easy and doesn’t cost you a penny! Since we signed up, our School community has raised over £1200 for the MHSG PTA.

Events

The PTA really does come into its own when events are concerned, with a fabulous social programme, catering for all ages and tastes. It also allows parents to meet and form friendships through their daughters. Regular social events in the past have included a Halloween disco, family quizzes and our ever-popular barn dance. This year, we hosted a Springtime Prep Disco and are planning a Festive Fair.

The Pre-loved Uniform Shop

Second hand uniform is one of the main fundraising activities for the PTA and is extremely popular.

The shop relies on the kindness of parents to donate their unwanted uniform, with every penny going straight to the PTA and Bursary Fund. We ask for pupils to bring in pre-loved uniform and leave it at Main Reception or Prep Reception. The Uniform sales tend to be on the first Thursday of every month, between 1 - 3.30pm in the Dining Room corridor. Please check the Weekly bulletin for more details and updates.

Gift Stalls

In the run up to Christmas, Mother's Day and Father's Day, the PTA runs Gift Stalls selling lots of gorgeous goodies for the pupils to buy for loved ones. It is always extremely popular and creates great excitement. The pupils literally can shop 'til they drop!
