Manchester High School for Girls

Girls from the Preparatory Department welcomed GB Paralympic cyclists, Helen Scott and Jon Gildea, to Manchester High on 20th January 2016 as they came to talk to pupils about their sport and to launch the annual Sport Relief campaign in school.

Helen and Jon came attended a special assembly and described to the girls what inspires them, and what everyone can do to stay fit, pursue their dreams, and still help others.

Helen, a tandem pilot who works alongside visually impaired female riders and who won a silver and bronze medal with her teammate at the 2012 London Paralympic Games, encouraged the girls to work hard to pursue their goals even from a young age.

Jon, who won gold in the International Para-cycling Time Trial in Switzerland in 2014, discussed how to continue moving forward despite setbacks, and provided tips about staying healthy and eating well.

Girls in Prep will now be selling wristbands in order to support Sport Relief, and on 18 March they will each donate £1 to wear their sports gear throughout the day. Money raised will go to support education in some of the world’s poorest communities.
