Manchester High School for Girls

The School lawn turned into a battleground from the past as Year 7 girls re-enacted the Battle of Hastings as part of their History lesson on the 2nd October.

In preparation for the event, the girls had made their impressive costumes and weaponry themselves, and on the day got into their roles in earnest. Staff and fellow students gathered to watch the spectacle.

Bob the Horse was crowned the best costume on the day.

Mrs Martin explained: “We organised the event as a response to the student voice last year where our girls had asked for more role plays in History. It is hoped that taking part in the re-enactment will have given the girls a real understanding of the events in 1066 and why the Normans were victorious.”

She added: “We hope to organise the event again; everyone had a great time and the weather was fantastic!”
