Manchester High School for Girls

On Wednesday 8th November, students and parents will be able to delve into the world of GCHQ (Government Communications Headquarters) and the role it plays as part of the country's intelligence services.

Government Communications Headquarters

Part of our 'Insight Into' series, this event will welcome experts from GCHQ and NCSC (National Cyber Security Centre) who will speak about career paths within their organisations.

The talk starts at 6pm in the Zochonis Lecture Theatre and is open to all pupils from Year 10 upwards. Friends from other local schools and colleges are also welcome to attend but must be registered.

As well as revealing what  life at GCHQ is really like, the session will also cover the exciting CyberFirst bursary programme which was created by GCHQ and NCSC to identify the next generation of cyber security experts. As technology enhances more and more of our daily life, cyberists will be the ones to safeguard it from all manner of threats.

Split into three parts, those accepted on to this competitive bursary programme will receive the following:

University: during the years a student is at university they will receive an annual bursary of £4,000 per year, tax free.

Every summer: NCSC will provide paid employment during the holidays or bespoke training within government or industry at a rate of £250 per week.

After graduation: students will be placed on a three year, graduate level cyber security role within government or industry.

We expect this to be an incredibly popular event so if you would like to attend, please secure your place by emailing
