ANNUAL AND DECADES REUNION
Over 100 former pupils returned to Manchester High School for Girls for the Annual and Decades Reunion on Saturday 23rd September.
The school was bustling with alumnae from the classes of 1957 right through to 2007. All had been eagerly awaiting a catch up with old friends since the event was launched as part of the calendar of alumnae events last spring. Some MHSG 'old girls' had travelled from France, and even as far as Bermuda to enjoy the day.
The Class of 1997 took some time out of the day to raise a glass in memory of their former classmate, Lucy Booth, who sadly passed away after a long battle with cancer in 2016. Nikki Richards led her friends in a toast while gathered around the MHSG donor window, where a block has been specially engraved in Lucy's honour.
“Lucy would have loved seeing all of your faces here today. It’s bittersweet to attend the reunion without Lucy. She is essential to nearly all my memories of life at MHSG and I have been lucky to count this inspirational and courageous person as a close friend for 26 years.”
Guests enjoyed a delicious lunch followed by tours of the school led by the Head Girl Team and House Captains. They were able to see first-hand all of the fabulous facilities that have been built since their time at MHSG. Lynne Webster from the Class of 1975 commented:
"I haven’t been back to MHSG since my last day of exams 42 years ago, and I’m thrilled to be here again. There have been so many changes, but my memories of school have all come flooding back! I was a bit nervous about coming back, but it turns out there was no need to be at all, what a lovely day."
Catharine Robertson from the Class of 1967 added:
“I’ve had such a wonderful afternoon catching up with old friends. Thank you so much for arranging this flawless day, well done!”
