INSIGHT INTO...LAW CAREERS EVENT
Our 'Insight Into...Law' careers evening on Thursday 9th March is a must for any girl harbouring ambitions to be a top lawyer. The event is open to students from Year 10 through to Sixth Form. Parents and friends from other schools and colleges are also welcome to attend.
From 6pm in the Zochonis Lecture Theatre, our three speakers, Lily Tomkins, Vicky Biggs and Joanne Woodward, will reveal if all the stereotypes associated with a career in the law are true, as well as explaining how they got to where they are today.
Lily Tomkins is an Associate in the corporate team at Eversheds Sutherland LLP. From the MHSG Class of 2010, Lily is a graduate of the University of Warwick.
Lily's recent experience includes the acquisition of a portfolio of 14 off-shore wind farms with an enterprise value in excess of €500m, and advising on the disposal of a group of private equity companies to a private buyer.
Lily is also involved in the 30% Club, a campaign aiming to achieve a minimum of 30% women on the boards of FTSE100 companies.
Vicky Biggs left MHSG in 2003 and works in commercial litigation for Myerson, a ‘top tier’ rated law firm.
In her present role, Vicky focuses on intellectual property disputes relating to trademarks, copyright, patents and design rights.
Vicky is currently acting for the claimant in the case of CGL Group Limited v Royal Bank of Scotland which relates to interest rate hedging products. This case is due to be heard by the Court of Appeal in May 2017.
Joanne Woodward, an MHSG parent, is a barrister at Nine St John Street.
She undertook a broad range of civil work before specialising in employment, discrimination and contract law, with a particular emphasis on appellate and complex discrimination work.
She is ranked in Band 1 in Chambers & Partners, Employment Bar.
She regularly appears against Leading Counsel and has been involved in many high-profile claims involving individual and collective employment rights, representing both employees and employers.
The 'Insight Into...' careers series has proved hugely popular and we expect this event to be no different.
