Manchester High School for Girls

Over 60 mums and members of the alumnae community joined us to mark the start of the festive season at our annual Ladies’ Lunch. The event was held in the beautiful surroundings of the King Street Townhouse on Thursday 1st December.

The ladies enjoyed a welcome glass of prosecco on the South Terrace overlooking the Town Hall and the rooftops of Manchester, before sitting down to a delicious two-course meal.

The job of hosting the event went to ‘no-nonsense’ journalist and broadcaster, our special guest, Angela Epstein. The former pupil of Manchester High School for Girls regaled us with tales of sharing a blusher brush with the Queen and her journey from MHSG to a prominent position as a freelance journalist today.

The lively lunch was rounded off with a raffle that raised over £300 for the Never Over100ked Bursary Appeal. Fabulous items were up for grabs; from a festive flower arrangement to an afternoon tea for two at King Street Townhouse,

Former pupil, Dr Jane Barber, commented:

“I thought the event went off very well indeed, and I loved the venue. The food was absolutely first rate and really delicious; all in all a very enjoyable afternoon!”

Mrs Veronica Lee’s daughter is currently studying at Manchester High. Mrs Lee said: "It was our first time attending a School event and we were a bit nervous. It turns out all the mums we met were really friendly and chatty which made us feel so relaxed as if we’d known them for years!  We will definitely attend similar events again to support our MHSG!”

Fellow parent, Mrs Anita Lee, said:“It was a super lunch. The setting, food and table were all excellent!”
