Manchester High School for Girls

Girls in Year 7 had a wonderful opportunity to get to know each other when they were whisked away to the YMCA National Centre at Lakeside, one of the largest outdoor activity facilities in the country.

The annual residential is many new Manchester High girl’s highlight of Year 7, and this year’s trip didn’t disappoint!

Hannah from 7H recounts some of her experiences:

“The two-hour journey took us to a beautiful countryside where there was no sight empty of nature’s greenery. Though it rained the whole time, it still made me smile.

I was very anxious as I didn’t know most of my fellow students, however, after our first lunch and a fact filled tour of the centre it was straight to business! This made me feel much more relaxed and excited about the days to come.

The raft building activity was really fun, but hard work. The designing and development of our masterpiece required teamwork and patience. Carrying heavy logs back and forth, and sometimes our designs not working to plan, re-jigging the design and rebuilding was very testing. I must say I didn’t particularly appreciate my shoes soaked in the lake tangled with water plants, but it proved to us how much we can achieve and enjoy such challenges together.

The next two days were exhilarating and a little bit exhausting! I was fortunate to experience rock climbing, daring obstacle courses and the heart stopping zip wire and more.

The rain stayed with us until we left, however, looking back, it is an experience that I will never forget. I feel this experience has made me a strong person, a strong team member and helped me to gain lots of confidence.

Thank you, Manchester High.”
