Golfing Isabella to the fore!

Isabella Taylor-Stokes in Year 7 is celebrating an eagle of golfing wins.

In May, Izzy competed in the Lancashire Schools Golf Championships at Penwortham Golf Club in Preston. Her round of 66 resulted in her winning the under 16 competition in a very competitive field.

Izzy, who plays golf regularly at Mottram Hall Golf Club in Wilmslow, said: “I have been playing golf for many years and am pleased that my hard work is starting to pay off. Winning the Lancashire Schools competition was a real achievement and I really enjoyed that win. I’m very grateful to my parents, who take me all over the country to play golf. I wouldn’t be able to do it without them.”

More recently, Izzy competed in the ‘US Kids’ European Champions at the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club in Scotland. Playing three rounds of three days against competitors from America, Malta, Germany and Belgium, Izzy hit 82, 75 and 85. Her success means that she qualifies for the World Championships at Pinehurst Golf Club in North Carolina.

Mrs Newman, Director of Sport at Manchester High, said: “We’re very proud of Izzy’s performances on the golf course. We’ve never had a prizewinning golfer, so this is a first for us and we’re delighted that it has finally come around.

Sport is a very important part of what we do here and Izzy is a shining example of what we’re aiming to do. She gets involved with everything she has time for; netball, tennis, golf, athletics, so it’s fantastic to be able to celebrate her achievements.”
