Girls launch Netball World Cup
Members of the Year 6 and Year 7 netball teams helped to launch the Netball World Cup at Media City.
To start the 100 day countdown to the competition’s opening ceremony, girls were invited to a skills and coaching session with Tracey Neville MBE, Head Coach of England Netball, and members of the England, Ireland and Scotland netball teams.
Mrs McDonagh, who coaches many of the netball teams at Manchester High, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our girls. Netball has continued to grow in popularity across the country and people are starting to realise what an exciting game it can be. We are fortunate to have had a number of very successful teams here, but I hope that the chance to meet international players will have really inspired our girls to keep playing and trying to improve.”
The excitement of the event attracted significant attention from the local and national media. Millie in Year 6 and Nikki in Year 7 were interviewed live on BBC Breakfast TV as part of the celebration. Mille said: “It was a really fun morning and I loved getting to meet Tracey and all of the players. I’ve never been on television before so this was a fantastic opportunity. Maybe one day I’ll be on the TV for actually playing netball!”
Netball continues to be incredibly popular at Manchester High and many girls play recreationally, for local club teams and for the county.
