Manchester High School for Girls

Manchester High School for Girls welcomed 110 former pupils, ranging from age 28 to a very sprightly 82, back to School for the Annual and Decades Reunion lunch on Saturday 29th September.

The School was buzzing with excitement as year groups from every decade from 1958 to 2008 caught up with old friends and enjoyed the displays of past work and class photos put together by the School’s Archivists and  Development Team.

Alumnae came from far and wide to attend the event, including Manchester, London, Germany, Spain and even Australia. Everyone enjoyed a fabulous lunch followed by tours of the School and its fantastic facilities with the Head Girl Team, staff and Anthony the Caretaker. Anthony, who has worked at the School for over 25 years is a well-known face for many of the guests who were delighted to see him again.

Jane Bold from Class of '88 said:

“There were 14 of us from my year group and it was so amazing to meet up with my old school mates. We had such a laugh and soon forgot the 30 years that had passed as we talked about school dinners, gym lessons and E33.

“A touching moment was when four of us had our photo taken by an area in the rose garden dedicated to Anne Kilgariff, our 4th form teacher. We all have fond memories of her. We have now created a Facebook group to keep in touch as we are based in different locations, including one member of our group, Christine, who travelled from Madrid! Thanks for all the work the School put in to the event.”

Whether you choose to come with a group of friends or as an individual, everyone is welcome at all of our events, some of which you may recognise and some of which are brand new, such as our ‘London After Work Drinks’ at BFI Southbank on 18th October. We still have spaces at this event and we’d love to see you there! To attend please complete and return the attached form found here:
