Manchester High School for Girls

Manchester High School for Girls’ Preparatory Department has received two prestigious awards in recognition of its Arts provision.

Members of the Prep’s Creative Council have all achieved the Arts Award Explore: Entry Level Award in the Arts. The girls spent last year meeting weekly and working at home to complete their Art Log Books. The books were a visual record of the range of arts activities they had been involved in, including a personal response about what had inspired them about taking part; research in to the work of artists, craftspeople and arts organisations, and pieces of art work which they had designed and created themselves.

Mrs Jessica Bingham, Year 6 teacher and leader of the Creative Council, commented: “The girls shared their Arts Award journey with others in an assembly last term, and presented what they had enjoyed and achieved with an audience of girls, staff, governors and members of the PTA. We’re really proud of all of the girls who took part!”

The Department has also been awarded the Artsmark Silver Award. This was granted by the Arts Council to celebrate and acknowledge the work MHSG’s Prep is doing to provide high quality learning, activities, resources and experiences for the girls across the full range of art forms: from drawing and painting, to museum visits and theatre shows, to ballet lessons and singing, and more.

Mrs Bingham said: “We’re thrilled that our Prep is now one of under 20 schools in the North West who can proudly display the Artsmark Silver logo and certificate. This will soon be displayed along the corridor where our permanent exhibition of the girls’ work from our Art Week workshops is also showcased.”

Manchester High’s whole school open events (aged 4-18) commence on Friday 19th October followed by a Saturday open morning event on 17th November. For details, please visit
