Manchester High School for Girls

Manchester High student Nicola Stockdale sailed to victory after being awarded the first ever Panerai Challenger Trophy.

The Panerai Challenger Trophy, in association with RYA OnBoard, aims to recognise an outstanding young person between the age of 8 – 18 years who has embraced the power of sailing or windsurfing to achieve a personal triumph that inspires us all. As part of the award, both Nicola and her sailing club (the Debdale Outdoor Centre in Manchester) will receive significant funding from Panerai to buy new equipment and support the sport developing talent.

Nicola was first introduced to windsurfing during Year 8 at Manchester High, when she went on a trip to Debdale Outdoor Centre and got to take part in water sports such as windsurfing and sailing. She enjoyed it so much that she joined the junior club. Now five years later, the award winning 18-year-old is a fully qualified Dinghy Instructor and an assistant Windsurfing Coach; having found something she is truly passionate about!

Nicola was delighted to be awarded the Challenger Trophy and said,

“I was Shocked; the other three finalists were amazing and so inspiring. I didn’t think I had a chance! I’m just so thankful to Panerai and the RYA for creating this opportunity. My club and the children there are going to benefit massively, and it could even change some people’s lives, just like sailing changed mine!”
