Manchester High School for Girls

MHSG tennis stars, Jemima and Coco from Year 6, are celebrating as they have just brought home top medals from the Association of Junior Independent Schools (AJIS) Under-11s Tennis competition.

Held at the King’s School, Chester on 24th May, best friends Jemima and Coco played in two separate pools and beat stiff competition from schools across the North West.

Both girls fought their way through to the semi-finals, and, eventually, faced each other in the nail biting final. Jemima was crowned champion of the tennis tournament with Coco coming a close second.

Of the pair's achievement, Jemima commented: "I am so proud of  Coco and I. We have worked really hard and we will continue to do so as we both love playing tennis!"

Jemima trains at Alderley Edge Cricket Club between three to five hours a week, and Coco trains at the Northern in Didsbury. Both hope to continue to play tennis and develop their skills and techniques further.

Mrs Rowley, PE teacher, was full of praise for the girls and said: “The level of tennis at the tournament  was absolutely fantastic. The girls kept their cool as they competed against some phenomenal players, and stepped up their game to rise to victory.

“They are a fantastic example of the talent that MHSG as a ‘School of Tennis’ has, and we can’t wait to see what they go on to achieve next. Both Jemima and Coco were professional, a real credit to the school, and I am really proud of them.”
