Manchester High School for Girls

It was time for pupils in Year 5 to have some fun, make friends and challenge themselves as they embarked on a three-day residential to Robinwood Recreational Centre at Dobroyd Castle in Todmorden between 26th – 28th  March.

The annual residentials are eagerly anticipated by everyone and they give pupils an opportunity to try new experiences and develop their interpersonal skills through play and hands-on exploration.

The trip to Robinwood was packed with activities from balancing above a ‘piranha pool’, exploring a dungeon to riding a zip wire and going canoeing. The girls demonstrated excellent team working skills as they negotiated themselves, and their friends, through the nail biting challenges. The activities continued until 9pm each night, and the girls spent their evenings bonding over hot chocolate and reflecting on the day’s adventures.

Their confidence grew by the day, as Sumira explained: “I had the time of my life and faced fears I never thought I could. It was an amazing three days.”

Meerab agreed with Sumira and said: “Robinwood was thrilling. We did so many activities, many of them I didn’t think I would ever get to try. The instructors and teachers were brilliant, and they supported us all with every challenge. I wish the residential had never ended.”

All the girls enjoyed working together and getting to know each other. Aamna commented: “We never had time to get bored as we worked collaboratively with girls in both Year 5 classes. It was brilliant.”

They came back from Robinwood buzzing with excitement as Aamirah concluded: “We all made new friends. When we had a particularly great time, we remembered the moment and shared it with each other, promising to cherish them forever.”
