WORLD CLASS STUDY OFFERS ARE MUSIC TO CEFERINA’S EARS
Talented singer, 17-year-old Ceferina Penny from Didsbury, has wowed some of the world’s leading conservatoires, securing a string of offers to study Classical Vocal Performance.
The Manchester High School for Girls student, who aspires to become a professional opera singer, is currently deciding between three scholarship offers at either the Royal College of Music, the Royal Academy of Music or the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Of her achievements, Ceferina said: “The auditioning period was a stressful, gruelling process and to come away with so many offers is incredibly flattering but also a huge relief. Choosing between such highly regarded conservatories is going to be difficult but I know my Music teachers here at Manchester High will be on hand to help me make the right decision.”
Currently studying for A-levels in Music, Physics, Chemistry and Spanish at MHSG’s Sixth Form, Ceferina commented:
“All I have ever wanted is to sing opera for a career, but I know it is going to take hard work and diligence. I’ll need to spend a lot of time studying; possibly even up to Master’s level, before I start auditioning for work. It’s a competitive business but I am quite competitive myself so I have confidence that I will be able to get there.”
Head Mistress, Mrs Claire Hewitt, said: “This is well deserved recognition for Ceferina, and a testament to her musical abilities. I have no doubt that she will make an excellent addition to the prestigious conservatoire of her choice!
“At the moment our Sixth Form Centre is buzzing as so many of our students are receiving offers from their first-choice of university. We also have girls who have chosen to pursue other routes, such as paid apprenticeships at the BBC or professional service firms such as Ernst and Young. At Manchester High we acknowledge there are many paths to success and we are looking forward to celebrating the achievements of all our Sixth Formers in the months to come.”
