MHSG MUSICIANS BRING FESTIVE CHEER TO THE END OF TERM
The holidays are almost upon us, and musicians from Manchester High School for Girls are helping the end of year celebrations feel very festive indeed.
On the evening of Tuesday 19th December, all the Senior School ensembles; choirs, orchestra, wind and jazz bands as well as the Year 7 choir, took centre stage of the main hall to perform at the annual Christmas Concert.
A large audience of friends, families, staff and Governors enjoyed a beautiful range of festive music from Tchaikovsky and Mussorgsky to some of today’s favourite arrangements including Brown’s ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ and Elbow’s ‘Golden Slumbers’.
The Year 7 choir performed a fitting finale where they invited the audience to join in and sing the chorus of Elton John’s ‘Step into Christmas’.
Mr Bradley, Head of Music at MHSG, said: “We would like to thank all the performers, staff, parents and friends of Manchester High who have helped to make the evening’s concert possible. A huge thanks also to the PTA for providing the wonderful refreshments, and to our caretakers for all their assistance with staging this event.
“We would also like to thank all of our additional players who have supported our various ensembles throughout the term during our rehearsals.
“Our girls did a fantastic job; all the hard work they have put in throughout the term really came into fruition. I am very proud of them all.”

Musicians from both Prep and Senior School also performed at the sold out ‘Christmas Carols in the City’ concert at Manchester Cathedral on the evening of Thursday 21st December (pictured below). The concert was hosted by Cold Feet star John Thomson and featured readings from Coronation Street star Kym Marsh and Samia Longchambon. MHSG students were joined by their peers from the Manchester Grammar School and Parrswood High School.
