Manchester High School for Girls

On Tuesday 19th December, we welcomed almost 100 former pupils from the classes of 2016 and 2017 back to Grangethorpe Road to catch up with their former peers and teachers over a glass of wine and a bite to eat.

As the girls gathered in the common room of the Sixth Form Centre, there was plenty of excitement to go around.

Former member of the Head Girl Team, Nisa Hasan who is currently studying Economics at the University of Cambridge exclaimed: “It feels like we never left!”

Fellow Class of 2017 alum, Alice McMahon is currently part way through her BBC Media Production apprenticeship. She echoed the sentiment:

“Seeing everyone here again is a bit surreal, and it’s so nice to chat with our former teachers who helped us all get to where we are now.”

Whether they’ve been away for one term or one year, all of our guests had one thing in common; a bond formed at MHSG which will last a lifetime. Many of the girls were already thinking to the future and asking: “When’s the next reunion? We can’t wait!”

As the evening came to an end, Head Girl for Class of 2016, Sophie Haughton, shared her thoughts:

“It’s been wonderful hearing about my friends’ first year away at university, and tonight has also been a lovely chance to see the diversity of journeys that the Class of 2017 have embarked on.”

The girls are now enjoying studying a breadth of higher education courses and apprenticeships around the country including Chemical Engineering, Veterinary Science, Liberal Arts, Medicine and many more.

We wish them all the best of luck and hope to see many of them again at some of our upcoming alumnae events for 2018 which can be found here.

To see what they got up to last night, all photographs from the event are available on our Flickr page here.
