MRS HEWITT'S COAST TO COAST CYCLE CHALLENGE

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, Manchester High School for Girls Head Mistress, Mrs Hewitt, took a ‘DofE Diamond Challenge’ by cycling the distance of a 130mile coast to coast cycle route.
Mrs Hewitt and Mr Gilkes, DofE Co-ordinator at Manchester High, recently attended the Diamond Anniversary of DofE Award event held in the Buckingham Palace Gardens. They were presented with a plaque in recognition of the School’s status as a Licensed Organisation for DofE.
Inspired by the visit, Mrs Hewitt cycled the 130m distance on an exercise bike in school on 21 - 22 June.
She explained:
“I've seen how taking part in the DofE Award Scheme helps to transform the lives of young people so I wanted to take the Diamond Challenge to raise funds for this fantastic organisation. I regularly cycle short distances but I have never done such a long bike ride. Covering the miles was challenging but rewarding at the same time! Thank you to everyone who have supported me and the great cause.”
