Manchester High School for Girls

From Dr Who and the daleks to the famous Mastermind chair, our Year 8 girls have taken in all the behind the scenes action from MediaCity UK.

Organised by The Peel Group, the trip gave our girls exclusive access to the 'Dock 10' studios where they were able to have a sneaky peak of the Blue Peter set and observe rehearsals for Mastermind. Pupil, Duha, commented that the Mastermind chair certainly makes Year 8 exams look "a lot less scary"!

The girls were shown how the sound and vision desks work in order to bring their favourite shows to life and even experienced the dizzy heights of the BBC Sport gantry.

The trip was part of Manchester High's Enrichment Day for Year 8 pupils.

The traditional timetable is collapsed and girls participate in sessions that will broaden their outlook, allow them to work alongside students from outside of their existing peer group and discuss topics and ideas that are not part of the mainstream curriculum.

Other activities on offer have included code breaking, conducting and an insight into the American presidential election.

Ceramics sessions have been fully booked throughout the day and girls have been intrigued to see the Modern Foreign Languages department's take on Eurovision!

Helen Jeys, Deputy Head of Manchester High School for Girls, said: "We know our girls have worked really hard all year and are starting to focus on their exams. While those are obviously important, we also want the pupils of Manchester High to be outwards looking and soak up all the amazing experiences and opportunitites that are around them in day to day life."
