Manchester High School for Girls

We encourage our students to achieve their full potential.

Artistic and sporting talents are nurtured and girls enjoy a diverse range of extra-curricular activities. They are complemented by superb modern facilities, including a state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre, extended Prep facilities, sports complex, fitness suite, dance studio and purpose-built Music House.

Girls in the Preparatory Department enjoy regular use of their own well-stocked libraries. The Senior School Library consists of a suite of three adjoining rooms. The Harrison Library contains fiction books, newspapers, magazines and audio-visual resources along with some study tables, comfortable seating areas and computers. The Burstall Library houses non-fiction books, subject-based periodicals and a large area for silent study. The Library computer room contains a number of computers with internet access, colour printing and scanning facilities.

Caring and supportive environments

With an excellent reputation for both academic achievement and pastoral care, students are encouraged to get the most out of life in a caring and supportive environment.

Water polo at MHSG

From the indoor swimming pool, climbing wall and fitness suite, to the multi-function sports hall, dance studio, tennis and netball courts and floodlit hockey pitch – our sport facilities are superb.

Each girl has the opportunity to find a sport she enjoys doing and to participate, whatever her level of ability.

Performing Arts

Drama is an important feature of our cultural activities, with drama clubs, school productions and extra lessons in Speech and Drama. GCSE, A Level and IB Diploma Drama are all taught in a studio fitted with industry standard theatrical equipment.

Musical talents thrive in our purpose-built Music House, a lively centre of creativity which provides the perfect learning environment for young musicians.

Sixth Form Centre

In 2014 our new, state of the art, Sixth Form Centre was opened by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal. The Centre includes the 120 seat Zochonis Lecture Theatre, an ICT suite, three science laboratories, classrooms and the Carole Nash Café.
