Manchester High School for Girls

The MHSG  Year 8 Water Polo team, ‘The Ducks’, have done their school proud by winning the English Schools Under-13s National Water Polo Finals on Tuesday 10th May.

They had qualified in second place to Crompton House School, Oldham, in the Northern round earlier this year. The thrilling final was held in Northampton where they played against last year’s winners, Kestevan & Grantham School, Alleyn’s School in London and King's School in Warwick.

Manchester High played Alleyn’s School in the final, and the game went back and forward with neither team being able to take more than a one goal lead. In the end it Ella scored the decisive goal with 30 seconds left to play, meaning the Ducks won the game 4-3.

Mr Jones, the school’s water polo coach, explained: “It was a brilliant day with some memorable performances and important contributions from the whole team. The captain, Imogen lifted the trophy that Manchester High have now won three times. I’m very proud of the girls!”
