A gift from you, no matter the size, would help us extend the opportunity of a Manchester High education to as many bright and deserving girls as possible, and continue to invest in the talented, ambitious atmosphere of which we are so proud. Help us invest in the leaders of tomorrow.

Supporting the Bursary Fund

You can donate online with a single or regular donation to our Bursary Fund. Whether you choose to make a regular donation or a one-off gift, your contribution will make a huge difference.

If you are considering making a major gift or corporate donation, please contact the Development Team at development@mhsg.manchester.sch.uk.

Bursaries are funded by a partnership between the School, our donors and The MHSG General Charitable Trust (the Bursary Fund, registered charity number 506823).

Investing in our Student Spaces

We welcome support for our Reflection Space and Outdoor Wellbeing Hub.

If you would like to support investment in our student spaces, please contact the Development Team directly, either by email development@mhsg.manchester.sch.uk or by telephone 0161 224 0447.

I think about my bursary donors a lot, and what they invested in me. I’m now able to pay that forward on their behalf. To me, they’re the champions of girls’ education. They are a group of individuals who had the foresight to recognise that how we build skilled, successful and thriving societies is through the education of girls.

Dr Seher Ahmad

Chair of Primary Care Cleveland Clinic, Abu Dhabi, MHSG Bursary Recipient, Class of 2001.

The Bursary Fund has already had a huge impact on my life, and I think it will continue to. It’s given me this foundational confidence, given me courage, and self-belief, and it’s inspired me to help other people in a similar position.

MHSG Bursary Recipient, Head Girl 2023-24.

Leave a Gift in Your Will

Legacy donations are a meaningful and enduring gift.

All bequests, of any size, directly benefit future generations of Manchester High students.

We understand that not everyone can afford to give right now, and that when the time comes, loved ones must be your first priority. But once you have provided for them, even a small amount left in a will can make a profound difference to a future student.

Our Ivy Leaf Society

Our Ivy Leaf Society recognises those who have decided to leave a gift to the school in their will. It is a special community of like-minded individuals, bonded by the shared passion for investing in the talented girls of our region.

Members receive special invitations to school events, like our annual spring lunch with the Head Mistress to talk about ongoing plans and activities. The names of all society members (should they wish), are displayed on a plaque in the main reception of the School.

Joining the Ivy Leaf Society

To be part of the Ivy Leaf Society, all you need to do is let us know you are leaving a gift in your will to the school – we do not need to know the amount. If you would like to donate directly to school projects, please provide your solicitor with the Registered Charity Number for the School: 1164323.

If you would like to support the Bursary Fund, please provide your solicitor with the Registered Charity Number for the MHSG General Charitable Trust: 506823.

As a registered charity, any gift left in a will to MHSG would be exempt from inheritance tax.

If you would like a confidential discussion about leaving a gift in your will, please contact our Development Team, on 0161 224 0447 or email development@mhsg.manchester.sch.uk.

Establish your legacy today, and leave your positive stamp on the future.

In Memoriam Giving

Making a donation in memory of someone is a special way to remember someone close to you.
Instead of giving flowers, families and friends often ask that donations in memory be sent to the charity he or she supported during their life. Manchester High School for Girls is grateful to those who have collected In Memoriam donations to support our bursary programme, helping more talented girls benefit from an education at MHSG.
Arrangements can be made through a funeral director, or if you prefer to make an In Memoriam donation online, please make your donation and email us to let us know.

Alternatively, please write to us and send any donations to: Development Office, Manchester High School for Girls, Grangethorpe Road, Manchester. M14 6HS.

We will reply with thanks for your kind support, unless otherwise requested.

If you wish, Manchester High School for Girls will contact close family or friends to let them know of your gift. If you would like to add a personal message, we are happy to do that on your behalf. Please email us and include the recipient’s contact details and any message you would like to include.

You may also wish to speak with a member of the Development Team for donations to be channelled to a project within the school that really embodies the person you have lost. You can contact them by telephone on 0161 224 2447 or email development@mhsg.manchester.sch.uk.

If you would like to give in memory of a friend or relative, we recommend setting up a MuchLoved online page.
All you need to do is create a page, select our name from the charities list and then share the link with friends and family. MuchLoved collects the donations and sends them directly to us. It also gives friends and loved ones the chance to write a short message or share a memory.

Donor Recognition

We are proud to recognise the generous support of our donors.

We have a new Manchester themed donor wall being created to recognise all those who have donated to our 150th Birthday Fundraising Campaign and those who continue to donate to support the future of social diversity at this incredible school.

Those who support one of our projects to improve student facilities will have their name added to the donor board in the space once it has been completed.

Other ways to support

Payroll giving

Payroll giving allows you to give money to MHSG without paying tax on it. Please speak to your payroll department or pension provider.

Corporate Giving

Companies in the UK making gifts to MHSG will see a reduction in their Corporation Tax liability.

Gift Aid

As a registered charity, MHSG can claim back the tax paid on an individual’s gift. We can reclaim 25p for every £1 gifted. Download a Gift Aid form below and return to the Development Team.

Gifting shares

Donating shares is one of the most tax effective ways for you and your company to give to MHSG. When qualifying shares are gifted to charity, you can benefit from income tax relief on the value of the shares as well as exemption from Capital Gains Tax on any gains made on the shares. This can amount to a substantial tax break.
