150 years of positive investment
Manchester High School for Girls originally occupied buildings on Portland Terrace and Dover Street, now part of the University of Manchester. Having outgrown these school sites, in September 1940, MHSG moved to its third and final home on Grangethorpe Road. However, it was bombed during an air raid in December of that year and the School moved to temporary accommodation in Didsbury.
Yet positive change grew out of this setback, with years of extensive rebuilding, including a new swimming pool (1968), a Music House (1984) and new science laboratories (1989).
After an extension to the Preparatory School, we built a new Sports Hall and Sixth Form Centre and last year our Senior School reception area was remodelled with the creation of a dedicated SEN Suite and much needed learning enhancement and wellbeing space.
