Enriching the Learning Experience
The start of the new academic year 2018/19 has seen the Prep Department launch a new Enrichment programme for Key Stage 2 pupils.
Every Friday afternoon, new and exciting learning opportunities are provided both inside and outside the classroom, with groups of girls spending five weeks on a particular activity before embarking on a new one. The Enrichment programme offers a broad range of opportunities including Coding, Creative Thinking Skills, Globetrotting, K’Nex, Cookery, Climbing, School Newspaper, Outdoor Character Building, Art and Self and Culture.
Head of the Preparatory Department, Mrs Mortimer, explained: “These activities help to contextualise and bring learning to life as we prepare our pupils with valuable life skills for the future. This programme also enables our staff to focus on an area they are passionate about and would not normally have the opportunity to deliver, providing an exciting end to the week for all involved.
“Teaching life-skills and character building has always been one of the main objectives within education, but often these skills can be forgotten. Now more than ever, developing a thriving Enrichment programme is an essential part of promoting academic attainment and employability in the future, teaching young people the skills they need to make good choices well beyond the classroom.
"Both our extra-curricular and Enrichment programmes are fundamental to nurturing well-rounded pupils with a passion for learning. Through skill-based enquiry and collaborative learning opportunities, we can broaden the mind and develop natural inquisitiveness and curiosity.”
