At Manchester High Prep, first experiences often happen beyond the classroom. Our wide-ranging extra-curricular programme is designed to open doors, spark curiosity and help every girl find activities she truly enjoys.

So much more than lessons

From building robots and learning chess strategies to practising taekwondo or creating mini masterpieces in art club, there is something to suit every interest and personality.

New opportunities at every stage

From ballet and sport to LAMDA drama, hammer beads and the Roots and Shoots eco club, pupils are encouraged to try something new, uncover hidden talents and develop existing passions. Reception and Key Stage 1 pupils thrive in outdoor learning sessions, while Key Stage 2 girls take part in weekly Enrichment activities that could include baking bread, calligraphy or public speaking.

Discovery in everyday moments

Our optional Discovery programme invites girls to notice, explore and experience life in different ways. It might be posting a letter for the first time, climbing a tree or curating a nature table. These moments build independence, resilience and curiosity, showing that learning is not just about what happens in a lesson, but about the first steps, skills and memories that stay for life.

Performing Arts

Performing Arts is an exciting part of life at Manchester High Prep, giving every girl the chance to take the stage with confidence and creativity from her very first days in Reception.

Drama
From much-loved Christmas Nativities in Reception to Year 2, to a vibrant Year 6 production, drama plays a key role in Prep life. Key Stage 2 pupils enjoy timetabled drama lessons that build performance and presentation skills in a fun, collaborative setting.

LAMDA
Key Stage 2 pupils can also take weekly LAMDA lessons in public speaking, verse and prose, and acting. These sessions culminate in a spring showcase, with many pupils achieving excellent examination results.

Music & Dance

Music
Music thrives across Prep, with many pupils learning instruments from KS1 onwards and performing in Twilight Concerts, Christmas and Spring concerts, and the Summer Musical Showcase.

Choir, ensembles and the Prep Orchestra give budding musicians the chance to perform as part of a team.

Dance
Alongside dance in the sports curriculum, optional clubs in Zumba and Street Dance provide another outlet for expression. Street Dance members even perform alongside Senior pupils in the annual Dance Concert.

Whether through drama, music or dance, every girl has the opportunity to perform, develop her skills and grow in confidence.

Sport

From their earliest days, Prep pupils are encouraged to explore sport, movement and teamwork. Sport at MHSG Prep is about more than physical activity; it is about building confidence, resilience, leadership skills and a sense of belonging.

Facilities for First Steps and Big Ambitions

Our Prep pupils enjoy access to MHSG’s outstanding sports facilities. These include an all-weather floodlit astroturf, netball and tennis courts, a climbing wall, dance studio, a swimming pool and a dedicated sports hall. These spaces give girls the chance to try a wide variety of activities in a safe and inspiring environment.

Clubs, Matches & Adventures

Prep girls can take part in a rich variety of sports, from gymnastics, ballet, football, street dance and swimming to hockey, rounders and taekwondo. A plethora of matches and tournaments give them the chance to represent the school in netball, hockey, cricket, football, waterpolo and more. The girls are taught PE by specialist teachers with a wide range of specialisms across the team. Whilst many girls are active outside of school, we work hard to ensure all girls enjoy PE.

First Goals, First Teams, First Confidence

Every success, from the first match first goal to a first match, builds skills that last a lifetime. Pupils learn the value of teamwork, develop perseverance and discover their own strengths. At MHSG Prep, sport is another way we help girls grow into confident, capable individuals who are ready to take on new challenges.
