Sport and PE are a major part of school life at Manchester High. They play an essential role in the physical, emotional and social development of every girl in the school.
Our dedicated and talented staff as well as our excellent facilities provide students with an environment in which they are able to develop, enjoy and progress at their own pace. We also feel it is imperative that the girls realise the importance of adopting a healthy and active lifestyle now and in later life through the enjoyment of varied physical activities.
Each student in Year 7, 8, and 9 has three 50 minute periods of PE and in Year 10 and 11 two 50 minute periods a week. We offer a broad, balanced and interesting curriculum and girls will have an opportunity to take part in a number of different activities during their time at Manchester High including:
- Table tennis
- Health related exercise
- Water polo
- Synchronised swimming
- Tag rugby
- Rock climbing
- Trampolining and
We also offer courses in GCSE PE, GCSE Dance, A-level PE and Level 1 and Level 2 Awards in Sports Leadership.
Through these activities girls develop an appreciation of the concepts of fair play, honest competition and good gamesmanship. Each individual is encouraged to develop self-esteem, confidence, and an appreciation of their own capabilities and those of others.
Opportunities to work in groups and teams will provide an environment which positively encourages co-operation, loyalty and team-spirit.
We compete in prestigious local, regional and national competitions as well as hold fixtures with other schools from across the North West in numerous different sports.
We have excellent facilities including a sports hall, a fitness suite, dance studio, climbing wall, four outdoor netball courts, floodlit astro turf and a swimming pool.
Our girls have the opportunity to enjoy various extra-curricular sport activities at MHSG and we have clubs for hockey, netball, athletics, rounders, tennis, skiing, swimming, water polo, indoor rowing, gymnastics, rock climbing, trampolining, rugby, football, fencing, cycling (track and BMX) equestrian, dance and Tae-Kwon-Do.
There are trips and tours as well as guest speakers who we invite into school to motivate and inspire our students.
