Kelly Moran is Metals Lead Engineer at Boeing Research and Technology Europe. Here she talks about her career path:
"It’s my job to develop innovative methods of technology that will make the metal parts on aeroplanes increasingly cost effective, lighter and faster to obtain. I don’t encounter many women in my line of work, but I’m never phased by being the only female in the room.
The breadth of education, ability to adapt and self confidence that Manchester High instilled in me means that I truly believe in myself and my talents. Pupils at Manchester High of course know that gender stereotypes exist, but are never constrained by them.
Manchester High girls can go anywhere, do anything and be anyone.
The engineering and technical industries are crying out for women to join their ranks and the work Manchester High
is doing to encourage girls to consider such careers should be applauded. In an unpredictable employment market, having STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) under your belt is a distinct advantage."
