Catering Facilities

Manchester High School for Girls has an excellent reputation for providing high quality school dining services for both students and staff, whether it be for school meals, café snacks, and refreshments for parents' evenings, governors' lunch buffets, or indeed special hospitality or event functions.

Sodexo is the School’s catering company; they prepare meals that are fresh, contemporary, nutritionally balanced and sourced locally.

Together, we encourage students and staff to choose foods that promote concentration, energy and well-being, always looking to find fun and informative ways to communicate this message.

Making Food Fun!

Themed meals and fun food promotions are a regular and popular feature at Manchester High School for Girls too, often sponsored by suppliers who showcase fresh locally-sourced produce or interesting and exotic ingredients.

Greek Day at Manchester High
Chef James Tanner visited MHSG to teach girls about sustainable fish.

All promotional activities are planned and published in advance, aimed at educating children about healthy eating and introducing new foods and flavours, often with interactive competitions and games challenging them to identify or distinguish between the many varieties of local produce. Menus are sometimes linked to curriculum subjects, too. For example, international menus may tie-in to Geography projects or Modern Foreign Language classes. We also encourage children of all ages to learn about the food journey from ‘farm to fork’, and host fun ‘cookery’ activities such as pizza making, baking or decorating biscuits and cakes.

In conjunction with the Preparatory Department, Catering Manager, Peter Norton, grows his own fresh herbs and salad leaves to incorporate on the daily menu.

The catering team also help to organise special events, such as ‘Dine With your Daughter’ and ‘Greek Day’.

Manchester High and Sodexo try to ensure that meal times are fun times for the children!
