Asra Shakoor
Asra is Specialist Policy Advisor to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government. She looks back on her professional journey so far:
"I still remember the first time I gave a speech at one of Manchester High’s Model United Nations conferences when I was 13 years old. Fear and nerves were soon overcome with encouragement and support from my peers.
Little did I know, this valuable introduction to diplomacy, international issues and public speaking would lead me to a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science, to working in Parliament and running the National Model United Nations conference in New York.
I now work at the very heart of UK government, advising on policy that directly affects the day to day lives of millions of people.
"I am so proud to be a part of the Manchester High community, a place that really feels like home."
