Manchester High School for Girls

Year 8 & 9 Tennis Team serve up an ace!

Congratulations to the Year 8 and 9 tennis team, who won Division 2 at the Regional Tennis Finals in Leeds last week.

Tanatswa Mutanga captained Tilly Hinds, Elli Struthers and Isabelle Taylor-Stokes to victory with decisive wins over Harrogate Grammar School (6-0) and St Olave’s School York (4-2). Their success comes on the back of their win in the same competition last year.

Mrs Newman, Director of Sport, said: “Tennis continues to flourish here at Manchester High and this particular group of girls get better every time they take to the court. The Regional Championships is a fiercely tough competition, with schools coming from across the North of England to compete. I’m incredibly proud of Tanatswa, Tilly, Izzy and Elli for their performances and I look forward to seeing them go from strength to strength throughout their time with us."

Tanatswa, who has also competed in the Year 10 and 11 team, commented: “I had a brilliant time at Regionals and it was fantastic to play against some high quality opposition. Every member of the team played their part and it feels amazing to come away with the trophy. We’ve got a bit of time off now, but we’ll be raring to go when tennis season comes back around!"
