Manchester High School for Girls

Swinging into Christmas with the Preparatory Department

Congratulations to pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 who performed their annual Christmas productions this week.

Reception performed It’s a Baby, based on the traditional nativity, with Mary, Joseph and Jesus making an appearance on stage in the Junior Hall. This production was the first time most of our youngest pupils had performed in public and the standard of their play was especially spectacular as they have only been rehearsing for two weeks.

Year 1’s Christmas production had a modern twist as they performed Baubles, the story of elves working through the night to create baubles which have images from the Christmas story. Mrs Heggie led the Year 1 in song throughout, with some fantastic dance moves on show from all the cast.

Pupils in Year 2 performed Ralph the Reindeer, a story about how Father Christmas dealt with Rudolph being poorly on Christmas Eve. The action-packed performance featured singing, dancing and even a real-life sleigh, to the delight of a sell-out audience of parents, grandparents and friends.

Head of the Preparatory Department, Mrs Mortimer, commented: “The Key Stage One productions always mark the start of Christmas for me. It takes a lot of courage to perform on stage, especially when you’re only four years old! All three year groups put on a fantastic show, which I know their family and friends thoroughly enjoyed! I’d like to give a special thank you to Mrs Heggie for arranging and leading the music, as well as our fantastic class teachers: Mrs Adam, Mrs Anderson, Mrs Baird, Mrs Callanan, Mrs Phillips and Miss Sanderson.”
