Prep celebrate Chinese New Year

On Tuesday 4th February, pupils in the Preparatory Department celebrated Chinese New Year in style with a series of activity workshops.

Under the guidance of volunteers from the Manchester Chinese School, pupils took part in cooking classes, art workshops and even a ribbon dance spectacular. In the afternoon, the whole Preparatory Department gathered in the hall to witness the traditional dragon dance. Pupils had the opportunity to learn about the history and significance of the dragon in a short question and answer session with the performers.

Mrs Mortimer, Head of the Preparatory Department, commented: “Our Chinese New Year celebrations are always one of the highlights of my year and yesterday was no different. The girls fully embraced all the activities and their creations were really quite ornate – I would happily have some of their artwork on my wall at home!

“They all loved the dragon dance, which gave us all the excitement we needed on a Tuesday afternoon! I’d like to give a special thanks to the team who came to join us, their contribution was amazing and picking up cabbage from the hall was a small price to pay!”
