Manchester High School for Girls

Christmas Carol Service at St Ann’s

Teachers, parents and former staff joined members of the public for Manchester High School for Girls’ Christmas Carol Service at St Ann’s Church on Friday 13th December.

The Senior Choir conducted by Mr Bradley led the service, which also featured performances by Chorale conducted by Mr Perry and Vocal Group, which is pupil-led. All groups paid homage to the Great British choral tradition, with music by John Rutter, Edward Elgar, James Macmillan, Bob Chilcott and Benjamin Britten. The service also included Christmas readings from the Bible, as well as a poems by poet laureate, Simon Armitage, and his predecessor, former Manchester High parent, Carol Ann Duffy.

Mrs Hewitt, Head Mistress, commented: “The Carol Service is always a beautiful occasion, but the music department really excelled themselves this year. The Senior Choir were on sparkling form as usual, and Chorale gave a mature and polished performance of two challenging songs.

“Numerous members of the audience came up to me at the end to say how much they’d enjoyed the service and how fantastic the music was, which is testament to the dedication of our pupils and the teachers who rehearse them. It has made me even more excited for the Christmas Concert on Tuesday!”
