ARTiculation success for Ellie

Ellie Devic in Senior Sixth gave an impassioned and polished presentation on John Waterhouse's Hylas and the Nymphs at Whitworth Gallery on Wednesday 22nd January.

The event was the regional final of ARTiculation, a national public speaking competition which encourages young people to look, think and speak about art. Alongisde pupils from local schools and colleges, Ellie gave a 10 minute presentation to a panel of judges and a capacity audience.

Of Ellie’s work, Mrs Chambers, Head of Art and Design, commented: “It was fantastic. Not only did Ellie convince the audience of her love for the artist and the painting, but she gave a very balanced presentation"

“ARTiculation is a fantastic competition and we are always honoured to take part. It is refreshing to see young people speaking about the contemporary relevance of historic works of art. I’d like to thank Ellie for all the time she put into the presentation and for representing Manchester High’s Art and Design department so well. I am very proud of her.”
