Manchester High School for Girls

An Evening to Remember at 'Cabaret'

Musicians and actors from the Senior School took to the stage for a memorable evening of cabaret performances.

Cabaret Evening is the highlight of the Manchester High calendar for many pupils and the capacity audience was full of current and former staff, parents and friends.

Hosted by members of the Junior Sixth Drama class, the evening featured performances solo and ensemble performances of songs from the shows. Theajus Illango and Vinnie Trivedi started the evening in style with a performance of For Good from Stephan Schwartz's hit musical, Wicked. Songs from Wicked appeared throughout the evening with The Wizard and I and Defying Gravity also on the programme.

Warburton Prize Winner Georgia Geupel gave a humorous rendition of The Boy From..., a spoof of the famous Girl from Ipanema, and she was joined by her classmates for the harmony rich classic, Mr Sandman.

Mrs Haves, Head of Drama, said: "I'd like to thank all our performers for their exceptional contributions to the Cabaret evening. Some of our pupils are seasoned actors and singers, but for many girls this was their first time on the stage. It can be a daunting experience, but I know their confidence will develop ten fold after 'jumping the first hurdle!'.

"Thanks must also go to our wonderfully appreciative audience who braved a cold, wet night. There really is nothing like having a good crowd in and I know the girls were incredibly grateful."

Thanks to all the performers, Thaejus Illano, Vinnie Trivedi, Amanpreet Potiwaal, Lilia Hakem, Esme Garner, Junior Sixth Drama, Jazz Band, Khushi Alam, Nikita Sood, India Espenlaub, Vocal Group and Charlotte Dobrev.
