We offer a range of competitive scholarships – for Music, Sport, Drama and Dance as well as Financial Assistance (Bursaries). Parents can apply for these online.
Assessment comprises the entrance exam followed by an interview with a senior member of staff.
Manchester High School for Girls is academically selective and sets its own entrance exam.

Sample questions in English Comprehension, Composition and Mathematics are available to help prepare for the exam.
Candidates who perform strongly in the written examination may be invited to attend an interview. Please note that not all candidates who are interviewed will receive an offer.
During the interview, we assess each candidate’s potential, interests, and how well their abilities align with their exam performance. Activities may differ from those in the written test.
Each girl is encouraged to bring an item of personal interest to discuss, which will help us better understand her passions and individuality.
All offers are emailed out from 9am on Tuesday 24 February 2026. Offers are processed online with a deposit required to confirm your daughter’s place at Manchester High. Offer holders are invited to book into an offer holder tour during the school day – between 25th February and 4th March and meet with students and staff.

Welcome information will be sent to new pupils, along with details of transition events in the summer term, to help every girl settle in before starting Year 7 in September 2026.
Awarded at the Head Mistress’ discretion for excellence in the entrance examination.
Music, Sport and Dance Scholarships
Scholarships are a percentage of fees and are not a fully funded place.
A limited number of bursaries are available for girls entering Year 7. Awards are based on academic merit and household income.
