Music

Our purpose-built Music House has 12 professional standard practice rooms and several classrooms, including one with space for orchestra rehearsals. Over 25 specialist instrumental teachers offer tuition and most girls learn to play at least one instrument.  Individual musicians and singers, choirs, orchestras and ensembles have many opportunities to perform in public at school events and are often invited to perform at a variety of outside venues.

The Music Department has its own library and a bank of computers programmed with Sibelius composition software.

Drama

From the start your daughter will have the chance to enjoy Drama, a thriving feature of cultural activity at Manchester High.  She can choose from Drama clubs, school productions and the option of extra lessons in Speech and Drama.  She may prefer to join one of our student technical, design or stage management teams whose high levels of skill enable them to function independently.  Drama at GCSE, AS and A Level is taught in a specially adapted studio.

Art

The high quality of work produced in the Art Department is on display throughout the school.  Our students contribute to a range of special exhibitions, including those held at the Portico Gallery and the Lowry Centre in Manchester, frequently winning prizes at these events.  "Across the Divide" is an annual joint exhibition with  Manchester Grammar School which celebrates our art students' achievements.  Your daughter will also have the opportunity take part in a range of visits to local art galleries and museums and the chance of enjoying  specially arranged art trips to cities such as New York, London, Paris, Florence, Barcelona and Rome.
