Where Are They Now?

I did not know what to expect when I left MHSG to read English at Cambridge. I had made some significant choices already – although my parents are doctors, I had consciously decided not to go into Medicine but instead to study the subjects I enjoyed, even though they did not link to a particular career.

I loved my A Level subjects, particularly because I had some great teachers. The only uncertainty I felt towards the end of my degree was that it did not link to a single profession, so I was unsure of what to do next. My uncertainties dissolved as I realised that instead of limiting my options, a subject as broad as English actually opened up various possibilities for me.

I started off working at the University of Bristol, producing university publications and managing undergraduate events.

After a couple of years, my husband's company opened a branch in Asia and asked if we would be interested in going to live in Pune, India. We jumped at the chance!

We have been here for a year now. I spent seven months working for a non-governmental organisation running an education centre which teaches Language, Mathematics and Values to children. I then began working as an editor for a publishing company. It has taken some adjustment to get used to the climate and the environment, but we have enjoyed our adventures here so far.

I hope that those facing a dilemma about their subjects and their careers will go with their hearts and choose to do what they truly love!
