| Senior School News Geography students had the opportunity to apply their subject knowledge during a fieldtrip to the Peak District National Park in the summer. The group studied Mam Tor (pictured), known as ‘the shivering mountain’, where landslips have destroyed the old A625 road to Sheffield. They completed some map work, learnt how physical processes and human activities have shaped the landscape and enjoyed some spectacular scenery.
The girls then walked to Winnats Head to study a small farm before continuing down Winnats Pass, a fossil-rich limestone gorge, which is over a mile in length.
In the afternoon attention turned to Castleton where students assessed the impact of tourism on the shops and services in the village. Their hard work was rewarded with an ice cream! |
