Over 1,500 people attended the sell-out production by the Jewish Theatre Group Stage80, prompting the original three-night run to be extended to satisfy demand.
The lead roles went to Year 8 pupil Isabella Rubin (pictured 3rd right), and Manchester Grammar School’s David Solomons, who played Gabriella and Troy with energy and panache. Other MHSG pupils cast in supporting roles (pictured) included Charlotte Winter, Gabbi Cohen, Gaby Lebovits, Natasha Hart, Talia Ingleby and Sophie Calmonson.
Natasha won much praise for her excellent portrayal of Ms. Darbus. It was the first time Isabella had landed a lead role in a drama production but she has previously claimed a singing award at the annual Alderley Edge Speech and Drama Festival.
She reflected: “It was both exciting and nerve-wracking at times but the reaction of the audience was incredible. Some chose to dress in character and join in with the songs, and others were on their feet dancing. It was a fantastic experience.”
