Former Students
Reuniting Our Classes of 1955-1957

Some 55 former pupils returned to Grangethorpe Road in September 2007 for the hugely enjoyable event organised by Norma Platts and Pat Ellis.

Acquaintances were soon rediscovered as attendees enjoyed a glass of Bucks Fizz on arrival and a chance to reminisce over a sumptuous gourmet lunch. There was even a celebratory ‘birthday’ cake which was cut by Mrs Barbara Crook, the attendee whose 70th birthday fell on the nearest date to the reunion.

There was great interest in the nostalgia collection compiled by Dr Chris Joy, MHSG’s Archivist, who did a tremendous job of gathering information and photographs about the ‘girls,’ including extracts from school reports and old newsletters.

Many attendees had sent in their recollections in advance, all of which were had been put together in a cuttings file which was circulated on the day.

A photographic display from the 1950’s was also on show for all to enjoy.

For many, the highlight of the day was a guided tour of the School which culminated with an opportunity to revisit classrooms and a chance to swap more stories about their school days.

With a ‘goody bag’ available to all on departure, the day had clearly evoked many fond memories of their formative years at MHSG.
