| News Archive Stage D'Or, with its cast drawn from MHSG and Manchester Grammar School, had just two weeks to organise their performance of the Oscar Wilde play, The Importance Of Being Earnest.
It was a task that may have defeated even the most determined of people, but all proved to be alright on the night with the performance winning many plaudits.
Robyn’s theatre company already has a reputation for the quality of its productions, and its ability to battle adversity. In 2007, their production of Blood Brothers won critical acclaim, and in 2006, Robyn was one of 10 students from MHSG and Manchester Grammar School who funded and staged their own show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
However, even Robyn admits things were pushed to the limits by having just a fortnight to rehearse and polish Earnest.
She explained: “This was a huge undertaking, although I do believe that nothing is impossible in theatre. The set, props and costume, all had to be found, which was no easy task when you specifically require, among other things, a silver cigarette case and somewhat capacious brown leather handbag!
“Then there were the costumes: three Victorian style dresses, parasols and hats, a tail coat and numerous cravats, and then we had to learn the lines. As well as examinations, the cast also had commitments with various school visits, camps and university open days.
“The weekend before the show involved nine hours of continuous rehearsals, and I can only praise the cast for their dedication, and determination to succeed. It has been incredibly hard work, but a tremendous experience,” she added.
