Park Life Visit - The Lakes

Interviewing visitors

Animated discussions on a range of topical management issues - including whether or not more mobile phone masts should be allowed into the Lake District – featured on the agenda for Year 9’s recent visit to the Lake District National Park Visitor Centre.

Other subjects under consideration ranged from how to cope with waste disposal to whether more car parks were needed in the area.

The Lake District National Park, spread over 885 square miles, is the largest in England, covering fells, lakes, villages, towns and beaches.

In addition to the useful insight into the management of national parks, the rest of the day was spent amongst the spectacular scenery of Lake Windermere, completing a land use mapping exercise, interviewing visitors, field sketching and considering how the lake has been managed to reduce visitor pressures.
