After a successful work experience placement in her fifth year at Manchester High, Jenni knew that landscape architecture was the profession for her and went on to Edinburgh College of Art/Heriot-Watt University where she gained her MA(Hons) in landscape architecture. This was a five year course, but the fourth year was spent on 'placement' with the Groundwork Trust in Hackney, East London. Here, Jenni worked on housing projects and public open space schemes involving local residents and youth groups.
After graduating, Jenni continued her work in urban regeneration for the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham where she worked with the Highways Agency and artists to integrate the A13 trunk road into the surrounding urban fabric by creating new artworks and public spaces, as part of the largest Arts Lottery scheme in the UK. Wishing to broaden the scope of her professional abilities, she moved to The Landscape Partnership's Suffolk office where she gained her chartership status and worked on a variety of schemes including the design and implementation of a seaside public square with water and light displays, carried out environmental impact assessments and produced masterplans for extensions to towns in flood risk areas.
But East Anglia was too flat and it rarely rained, so Jenni decided to move back up north. She now lives in Disley with husband, Neil, and is principal landscape architect at the Manchester office of Scott Wilson, an international, multidisciplinary built environment consultancy. Jenni is currently working on a green space strategy linked to housing market renewal in North Staffordshire, and a large public realm project in Southport. She has also recently gained a Master of Studies degree in Interdisciplinary Design for the Built Environment from the University of Cambridge and is continuing her research into the design of design teams and their impacts on outcomes and performance.
