About Us

The London Society was formed in the 1920s by former students of Manchester High School for Girls living in the London area. The annual lunch provides an opportunity to meet and exchange news and hear updates about MHSG. The speaker is always an Old Girl or staff member of the School.

Recent speakers have included:

2010: Monica Grenfell (née Garvey, Class of 1969), the renowned nutritionist, food therapist and writer. Monica (pictured) captivated the audience with her fascinating career history, from struggling young actress to successful writer and age defying grandmother.

2009: Claire Hewitt, Head Mistress from January 2009 to date Mrs Hewitt spoke about her career to date and how she saw her role in carrying forward the great traditions of Manchester High School for Girls

2008 Georgina Bouzova, Class of 1993 Georgina spoke of her successful career in TV

2007: Doreen Massey, Class of 1963 'How Did I End up Here?!': Reflections of a Professor of Geography

2006: Susan Bouette (neé Brindley), Class of 1977 'Cellos and Chickens'

2005: Baroness Sally Hamwee 'What the Earl said to the Bishop'
