Life in the Senior Department

At the age of 11, your daughter will join one of four forms of about twenty-seven girls.  Our carefully structured and sympathetic induction programme will help her to settle easily and make friends.

From the beginning, your daughter will follow a varied, stimulating curriculum which includes traditional disciplines such as Latin and extensive use of our generous ICT resources.  To ensure that she reaches her full potential both in academic and practical subjects, she will be taught in smaller groups in a range of areas such as Mathematics, Science and Art and Design Technology.  When she enters Year 9, over half of her subjects will be taught in reduced sets.

You and your daughter can look forward to considerable academic success at GCSE, AS and A Level.   We shall encourage her to maintain breadth in her choices so that she fully explores her personal strengths before specialising at AS Level.

Our highly qualified and dedicated professional teaching staff work closely with their students to maintain our excellent record of results. Your daughter will be encouraged to develop an independent approach to her learning within a carefully structured framework.  She will have access to fully networked technology rooms both during and outside lesson time and will also have the support of a continually up-dated, well-equipped library staffed by a professional librarian.

We aim to maintain a close relationship with parents.  Thrice yearly reports, attainment tests and parent consultation sessions will keep you fully informed of your daughter’s progress and she will be invited to attend consultation evenings with you from Year 9. Further help is provided, if necessary, by our Learning Support Co-ordinator and by additional meetings between you, your daughter and her Head of Year.
