First stop for the group, even before the hotel, was the fantastic Blue Lagoon which provided the perfect environment for students to relax after the long journey.

The Golden Circle, the must-do tourist route, was the next day’s challenge with students taking in Thingvellir, where a rift in the earth’s crust marks the boundary between the North American and the Eurasian plates. This was followed by a walk around Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most spectacular waterfalls.  After a short journey the girls witnessed an erupting geyser and the route was concluded with a look at the Kerith volcano crater.

Other spectacular sites included waterfalls, a glacier, lava formations and impressive coastal cliffs.

Iceland’s capital was saved for the last day where some students visited Reykjavik cathedral and took the lift up the bell tower to see panoramic views of the city.  Shopping was a priority for many ,and a few bold girls even sampled the local delicacy of puffin!

Student, Niecoo Tajmehr said of the trip: “The scenery was just breathtaking and we enjoyed some thrilling days out, some of which passed all too quickly. The highlight for me was our visit to the Blue Lagoon where we were able to relax in the man-made spa of geothermally heated waters. Sights like lava flows, spectacular waterfalls, volcanoes, erupting geysers and a glacier were also fantastic and really helped with my understanding of what we had previously learnt in class.”
